Travel Journal

 Germany, Switzerland, France

Along with the food, the wine, the beer, and the joy of meeting up with old friends for a very personal and personalised tour, a recent trip to Germany offered a fascinating glimpse of different histories and cultures, from Baden-Wurrtemberg in the south-west, to Basel, across the Rhine in Switzerland and Alsace-Lorraine in France. The photographs in this series offer, in this spirit, a personal and idiosyncratic ‘reading’ of the region - an accidental semiology, if you will.

Rather than organise the images strictly by location or theme, or in travel sequence, I have set them out in such a way that they also, I hope, talk to each other, each image looking back and forward to the next in a kind of visual conversation, the banter and exchange of views that are shared by old friends.
