Marievale Bird Sanctuary

Marievale in Monochrome

The Marievale Bird Sanctuary is an hour’s drive from Johannesburg, in a wetland area bordered by mine dumps and the unlovely town of Nigel. The birdlife is wonderful - flamingoes, spoonbills, egrets, herons, ducks of all shades and persuasions, coots and moorhens by the multitudes. These black-and-white images of an African Spoonbill, and the series of three photographs of a Little Egret flying over the mine dumps, are from recent visits.
